Douglas jets in to join new club Chard

NEW Zealand back Neil Douglas has joined his new club Chard.

The Kiwi, a fitness instructor, arrived in this country from Down Under this week and will be meeting his new teammates at their opening pre-season training session on Tuesday (7.00). However, Douglas may be a little surprised by his first taste of English rugby - for Chard will begin training on Tuesday with an aerobics session! Douglas will be coaching the South Somerset club's backs, while fellow countrymen, forward Lee Carter, is set to arrive at the end of next week. It means both will be available for the club's pre-season friendlies in August. "Both have self funded their trips, which is very ususual," said head coach Steve Broome."We expect both of them to be with us for a couple of seasons." Chard, who just missed out on promotion from Somerset Premier last season, are stressing the importance of a good build-up to the new season following a disappointing September last year.
