Babas set to start pre-season training

MINEHEAD Barbarians will be holding their first serious pre-season training session at Ellicombe Road on Tuesday evening (July 6).

The Babas, whose first team were relegated from Western Counties to Somerset Premier at the end of last season, will be holding a players meeting and light training session tomorrow (July 1). "Training will be Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week," said coach Andy Stevens who will be assisted this coming season by the New Zealand-born Dave Hurley. The pair have already sat down to discuss how they're going to prepare for the new season. "There will be no serious changes, but we just want to make sure we don't get the injuries we did last season," said Stevens. "We expect the squad to be about the same. We're not the sort of club that can go out and attract players. "We only get players joining us when they come into the area. That's always been the case simply because of where we are. "We're not near any big towns. So we have to make the most of what we have and, until last season, we've been pretty successful."
