Enmore Park seniors enjoy a good start to June

ENMORE Park Seniors had a very productive start to June with two convincing wins at Enmore and Weston-super-Mare.

The Seniors hosted the Windwhistle Club from Chard and achieved a comfortable 5 games to 2 win over their South Somerset rivals. The players had to sustain a torrential storm during the second half of the match, but remained focused and all completed their rounds. The popular score of a 5 & 4 win was returned by three Enmore pairs, namely Graham Marson with John Rigler; Captain Roger Anniss with John Clift and Gerry Oates with Phil Wood. Peter Hamshere with Ray Hancock had a good win by 4 & 3 while Mike Perry and Roger Cross won their match 1 up on the 18th green. The Seniors visited Weston-super-Mare Golf Club two days later and survived a very strong wind on the North Somerset Course adjacent to the Bristol Channel. Enmore returned home with a notable 5 games to 3 win over a strong Weston team. The result was in the balance until the very last match finished when the ‘Captain’s bankers’, Ray Hancock and Ken Hunt, held their nerve to win 1 up on the 18th green. Other winners on the day were Tony Pomeroy with Gerry Oates (3 & 2); Max Jameson with Keith Calvert (2 & 1). In the meanwhile, two other games were won by the close score of 1 up on the 18th,when Bob Burton with Ray Stanlake and Iain Stewart with Keith Preston recorded further wins for the Enmore Seniors.
