Baker Cup gearing up for 81st season!


THE 2018 Baker Cup will be competed for by 19 sides as the 81st consecutive running of the Taunton areaís very own T20 gears up for the new season.

Joining the two teams that each of Taunton St Andrews CC, Taunton Deane CC and Taunton CC have entered will be one team from each of Ashbrittle CC, Brompton Ralph CC, Chard CC, Ilminster CC, Spaxton CC (a new entrant), Bridgwater CC, Wembdon CC, Middlezoy CC, Watchet CC, Wellington CC, North Petherton CC, Trull CC and Staplegrove CC.

The format for 2018 will see the six lowest seeded teams (based on 2017ís League positions) play in the Preliminary Round on Monday 30th April in games that will be sixteen overs per side due to available daylight.

The winners of these games will go forward to the First Round which will be played on Monday 21st May when games will all be of twenty overs per side with the losing sides then competing for the Davies-Bishop Trophy, named in honour of the Competitionís two most recent Presidents, Tony Davies and Dennis Bishop, and this aspect of the Competition will be played for through a round-robin series of games leading to a Final match.

The eight losing First Round teams will contest the Terry Mockridge Memorial Shield from the start of June.

Pleasingly the Baker Cup Final for 2018 will return to Somerset CCC after a year away and it will take place on Tuesday 26th June.

The Competitionís AGM takes place at Taunton CC on Wednesday 28th February from 7.30pm and will see the draw for the coming season take placeÖ
