End of Season Final Update

 Hi Guys

I hope your summers are all going well, I have kept a look out for all your results and have noticed a few of you have made great starts to the season! I have included our application form for next season. I will give you a brief run down on how the next season will work however I must stress that this is subject to change depending on how many more teams enter as we are already approaching full subscription.

The league will run as before and will be split into two periods, October to December and January to March. The matches will still take place on Sunday afternoons and once again at the Princess Royal Sports Complex, Wellington. We have listened to your feedback and are still making minor adjustments to the rules based on your comments. All matches will be officiated by a neutral umpire provided by Cougar Cricket, this umpire will act as the standing umpire so sides will have to supply an umpire at square leg, this may be a player. The cup competition has been expanded to incorporate all our leagues (Yeovil, Wellington and Wells). This may result in teams from Wellington having to play at Yeovil or Wells. Whilst the cup competition is free to register you can opt out if you think you will struggle to raise a side that will travel. Finally, all cancellations across all games (league and cup) will result in the game being forfeited and a fine of £48. The fine covers the cost of a cancellation and will also act as a deterrent. Whilst we appreciate sides can be let down at the last minute there will be no exceptions to this rule. If you have any further questions then please get in touch and I will try to answer your queries as accurately as I can.

I have included an entry form for the 2010/11 season. We will hold our founder clubs places until 1st July before we open it to other teams. We are also offering clubs the chance to register for £30 until 1st July, after that date the price will rise.

I have also attached a copy of the season statistics for you to look at use as you wish. In addition, if you would like to receive a hard copy please let me know and I will send them out. From the statistics I can announce the following award winners for our inaugural season:

2010 League Winners:                                                                    Sampford Arundel CC

2010 Wellington League Bowler of the Year:                        Jon Shepherd, Queen’s (9 wickets @ 18.6)

2010  Wellington League Batsman of the Year:                     Gary Bishop, Up the ‘Grove (213 runs @ 106.5)

2010  Wellington All Rounder of the Year:                             George Musgrave, Queen’s (179 runs @ 59.6 & 8 wickets @ 19.3)

The awards were very difficult to decide, special mentions must also go to Paul Short of Wellington CC and  Dave Kittow of Sampford Arundel CC  who both had very good seasons and were unlucky not to win their respective honours. Congratulations to those who picked up awards and arrangements will be made in the coming weeks to present you with your awards.

Finally, as I mentioned earlier, we intend to supply neutral umpires for all our games next season. Due to the nature of the game it is our desire to train up individuals that have taken part in last season’s league rather than approach current practising umpires. David Derrick and Louis Corbin will be taking up the reins for us but if there is anyone else who wishes to become an indoor league umpire (Cougar Cricket will provide you with all the training and equipment as well as paying a competitive rate) then please get in contact. If you could forward this around your clubs that would be great.

I hope to see you all in upcoming season. Many thanks for your participation in last year’s competition and best of luck for the remainder of the summer!

Kind regards

Rob Mortell
